ABOUT US

The UIC Office of Graduate Diversity Programs (OGDP) was established by the College of Medicine to address the need for an increase in the number of persons underrepresented in the biomedical sciences. To that end, OGDP has worked to provide various opportunities for such students and has strived to create a nurturing environment where the professional pursuits of prospective scientists can be fostered.

Chief among OGDP’s efforts is it’s hosting of the Bridge to the Doctorate Program. This program, funded by the National Science Foundation through the Illinois Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation, recruits promising first-year PhD students from Bridge to the Doctorate underrepresented segments of the population in any of the STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Awardees receive two years of funding as well as access to a plethora of supportive workshops and events aimed to give them a strong start as they pursue their careers.

In addition to this, the OGDP also provides counseling and guidance to students of the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) and the Graduate Education in Medical Sciences (GEMS) program. Overall the office works to improve the community at the University of Illinois at Chicago for all of its constituents.

Our offices are located in the College of Medicine in the Clinical Sciences North Building, Suite 300 at 820 South Wood Street. Please feel free to stop by and ask any questions you may have.
