The UIC Department of Radiology is home to many high-achieving members of the medical profession. One particular person of interest is Dr. Jessica Lai, who was recently named a recipient of the CARE award, an award bestowed upon UI Health employees who go above and beyond in their devotion to patient care and willingness to face challenges within the medical profession while striving for excellence. Dr. Lai has an extensive and impressive history in academics and research that has prepared her greatly for the outstanding contributions she has made to our department.
After graduating from Washington University with a major in biology and minor in psychology, Dr. Lai went on to attend the Case Western University School of Medicine and received her M.D. in 2010. During her time at Case Western, her research was recognized with the Lepow Research Day Abstract Award, which was only granted to 12 other students in her class. After graduating, she went on to complete her residency in radiology at the University of Chicago, and received her fellowship in breast imaging at Northwestern Medicine and Prentice Hospital. Throughout her career, Dr. Lai has done amazing work in the field of breast imaging and women’s health, working as a breast imaging specialist at Integrated Imaging Associates and Elmhurst Radiologists. Lai also went on to research and advocate for women’s health and published research on the importance of screening for history of breast cancer in patients when determining the chance of the development of future cancers.
Since joining the UIC Radiology Department in 2019, Dr. Jessica Lai has been an invaluable member of the team, bringing both her expertise in her field and her passion for improving patient care to the table, rising to become the current assistant professor of clinical radiology. She now practices radiology while passing on her knowledge and experience to our best and brightest medical residents. With her diligence, compassion, and dedication to patient care, the UIC Radiology Department is proud to have Dr. Lai among our ranks.
