Research and Teaching Interests: Dr. Miller is board certified in general surgery and hospice and palliative medicine. She practices acute care surgery, provides palliative medicine and clinical medical ethics consultation, and has worked as an associate medical director of an inpatient hospice unit. Her clinical and research interests include integrating palliative medicine and clinical medical ethics into the care of seriously ill or injured surgical patients and this passion has led to becoming a founding member of the Surgical Palliative Care Society. Additionally, Dr. Miller is a fierce advocate for gender and racial equity, diversity and inclusion in medicine and surgery as a founding member of TIME’S UP Healthcare and the Founder and President of Physician Just Equity. Physician Just Equity is a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation that exists to support learners, physicians, and surgeons experiencing bias, harassment, discrimination and retaliation through workplace conflicts, championing a balanced resolution, while simultaneously seeking to facilitate institutional culture change.

Research and Teaching Interests: Dr. Murphy teaches and conducts research in the areas of professional ethics, assisted reproductive technologies, medicine and sexuality, and ethical aspects of genetic research. He is the author or editor of nine books, such as Justice and the Human Genome Project (University of California Press), Gay Science: The Ethics of Sexual Orientation Research (Columbia University Press), and Case Studies in Biomedical Research Ethics (The MIT Press). His most recent book is Ethics, Sexual Orientation, and Choices about Children (The MIT Press). He has published widely in professional journals such as the Journal of Medical Ethics, American Journal of Bioethics, Bioethics, Cambridge Quarterly of Healthcare Ethics, and Reproductive Biomedicine Online, among others. His work has been supported by grants from the U.S. Department of Defense and the National Institutes of Health.
