Maarten C. Bosland, DVSc. PhD, Professor Emeritus of Pathology, is engaged in Ghana in capacity building in teaching, research and clinical care at the Kwame Nkrumah University for Science and Technology and the Komfo Anyoke Teaching Hospital in Kumasi and the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons. He is fostering partnerships between these institutions and the UIC College of Medicine in areas including pathology, dentistry, anatomy, internal medicine, pediatrics, and radiation and medical oncology. These capacity building efforts take the form of virtual educational activities and faculty and resident exchanges. In Nigeria, he has been collaborating with a few universities on research om prostate cancer with the ultimate aim to improve prostate cancer care in Nigeria; he has studied this malignancy in the US for many years resulting in many publications. He is also active in a working group of the Consortium of Universities for Global Health on diagnostics aiming at improving pathology, laboratory medicine, and radiology/imaging services in low- and middle-income countries, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa.
