A one-year, ACGME-accredited fellowship in Hematopathology is offered at the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System at Chicago. The UI Hospital is a 441-bed, tertiary care, university hospital, which supports an active bone marrow/peripheral blood stem cell transplantation service. The fellowship is designed to provide a broad and intensive experience in all aspects of neoplastic and non-neoplastic Hematopathology. Training includes evaluation of bone marrow specimens, lymph nodes, and other tissues with hematologic disorders, interpretation of peripheral blood and body fluids, and hematology laboratory instrumentation. The fellow will also gain experience in immunohistochemical and flow cytometric phenotyping, cytogenetics, molecular pathology, hemoglobinopathies, and disorders of hemostasis and thrombosis. Presentation of cases at hospital-wide clinicopathologic conferences, supervision of residents, and teaching of medical students and residents is expected. Participation in a range of scholarly activities is required, and, depending on the fellow’s interests and career goals, research experiences are strongly encouraged.

Stipends: Commensurate with level of training. The Web site of the Graduate Medical Education Office contains specific information regarding stipends and benefits.
