About
Shilpa Iyer, MD is Associate Professor in the Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstruction Surgery Section, Department of OBGYN. Dr. Shilpa Iyer completed medical school at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) in a joint MD/Master in Public Health (MPH) Program with the UIC School of Public Health. After she obtained her MD degree Dr. Shilpa Iyer pursued education in OBGYN and completed her training at the prestigious combined residency program Brigham and Women's Hospital/ Massachusetts General Hospital. This training was followed by a fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery at the joined North Shore University Health System/ The University of Chicago program. Following fellowship Dr. Shilpa Iyer became faculty in the Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery Division at The University of Chicago where she practiced until our successful recruitment at UIC.
Dr. Shilpa Iyer is a naturally born educator. She received numerous prizes, including the Harvard Macy Scholar in Medical Education, the Resident teaching award for Harvard medical students and the Golden Apple teach award for Excellence in Residency Teaching Fellowship Award. Dr. Shilpa Iyer has a special interest in health disparities, aging and pelvic floor disorders for which she was funded as principal investigator.
