About

Dr. Hinz is an Obstetrician Gynecologist at UI Health.  She is fellowship-trained in Complex Family Planning and provides comprehensive family planning services and contraceptive counseling for patients with complex medical problems. Following her residency training at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Dr. Hinz obtained a Masters in Public Health (Health Policy) from New York University (NYU) College of Global Public Health.

Dr. Hinz is passionate about medical education, specifically teaching learners from diverse disciplines about comprehensive reproductive healthcare and reproductive justice. She is currently the Ryan Residency Training Program Director for the UIC OB/Gyn residents. In this role, she implements structured clinical and didactic learning for UIC and Loyola residents. She also serves as the Rotation Director for fourth-year elective in Family Planning and is the Course Director for CHSC 594 (Public Health Aspects: Abortion & Family Planning), a 3 credit graduate level course for Masters students in the School of Public Health at UIC. She is a faculty mentor for the UIC Chapter of Medical Students for Choice. Dr. Hinz has received the Apple Award for Excellence in Medical Student Teaching.

Dr. Hinz has participated in several advocacy initiatives on access to health and health policy during her residency and fellowship. She has written for online media and provided written testimony for the IL Reproductive Health Act.

Her research interests include postpartum contraception, satisfaction and shared decision-making in contraception counseling, abortion policy and its impact on patient care and access. She serves as a research mentor and recently was awarded with the Resident Research Mentor Award in the Department of Ob/Gyn.

Dr. Hinz is fluent in English and Spanish.
