About
We are thrilled to welcome Samantha (Sami) Heywood as our first Complex Family Planning Fellow. Raised in Chicago and an alum of the UIC College of Medicine, Sami is no stranger to our city or our UIC family. Prior to medical school, she spent a summer working in the Center for Reproductive Health and completing research with UIC residents and faculty. We are so excited that she will be coming back home and will hit the ground running! Sami will join our team after graduation from Indiana University OB Gyn Residency Program in July 2022. As her program director put it, we know that “She will advance the field of Complex Family Planning and make this a more just place for all people.” After Fellowship, Sami plans to expand care in geographic regions with limited abortion providers or access, and to continue to teach the next generation.
