Welcome Dr Rajul Kothari
Dr. Rajul Kothari named Director for Gynecologic Oncology Division, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine
Dear Faculty,
I am pleased to announce that Dr. Rajul Kothari will assume the responsibilities of the Director for Gynecologic Oncology Division, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, beginning September 16, 2024.
Following completion of medical school at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), Rajul completed her OBGYN residency at The Ohio State University in 2008. Highly committed to women’s care and cancer research, Rajul enrolled as a gynecologic oncology fellow at the University of Minnesota Medical Center where she completed her fellowship in 2011.
Following her fellowship training, Rajul returned as a faculty member in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UIC where she advanced through the academic ranks to Associate Professor. Rajul served as the Administrative Director for the Gynecologic Oncology Division, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, at UIC from 2011 to 2019. Following her departure from UIC in 2019, Rajul worked in Northwest Indiana until 2022, and she has been in private practice in Chicago and River Forest, IL since that time.
Dr. Kothari is very well known to our department and institution. Her talent, compassion, kindness, collaborative spirit, teaching abilities and achievements were always remarkable at UIC. As a testament to her abilities, Rajul has been recognized in many ways, including the Exceptional Women in Medicine Award and Golden Apple Award from both Mount Sinai Hospital and the University of Illinois College of Medicine.
Dr. Kothari has published on reproductive system gynecologic cancers with contributions to basic science and clinical medicine. She has presented numerous abstracts at various national meetings related to her field. During the last several weeks, I have heard from many of Rajul’s prior and current UIC colleagues. I can attest that there is substantial excitement surrounding Rajul’s return to UIC to lead our Gynecologic Oncology Division through the next period of development and growth.
I would like to express my thanks to Dr. Shannon MacLaughlan for her contributions to the department and the Gynecologic Oncology Division. Under her management, the division successfully passed through and recovered following the COVID pandemic, patients received great care, one faculty member was recruited, new collaborative research projects were initiated, and the residency program continued to achieve strong teaching marks.
Please join me in congratulating Dr. Kothari on her return to the University of Illinois College of Medicine and on her new leadership role.
Best regards,
Catalin
