The UI Health Nurse Midwives tailor our healthcare to meet the unique needs and preferences of all individuals. We use an integrated approach to provide care for all patients throughout the lifespan – from first gynecologic visits, through childbearing and past menopause. As part of a teaching medical center, we work with specialists to meet all healthcare goals. Our aim is to create a welcoming and inclusive environment that promotes trust and facilitates healing.

The Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNM) of the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System are privileged by the University of Illinois Medical Staff as Staff Associates.
Certified Nurse-Midwives provide service in a health care system that has available consultation and assistance from board certified or board eligible obstetrician/gynecologist physicians. This is consistent with the Joint Statement of Practice adopted by the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
Credentials of a Certified Nurse-Midwife at the UICMC include:
- License: Licensed as an Advanced Practice Nurse in the state of Illinois.
- Education:
a.) Successful completion of a program in Nurse-Midwifery accredited by the ACNMb.) Holds a master’s degree from an accredited university. - Certification: Certified by the ACNM Certification Council, Inc.
- Eligibility for faculty status.
