University of Illinois Chicago Friends of Global Health Professional Development Award 2022

The University of Illinois Foundation has received donations to support the Center for Global Health “Friends of Global Health” Fund.

This fund supports the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) College of Medicine, Center for Global Health (CGH) professional development programming in low- and middle-income countries.

The “Friends of Global Health” will fund up to 5 professional development opportunities. Each ‘Friends of Global Health’ awardee will receive compensation of $3,000 USD.

This year’s awards are open to global health leaders who reside in Ukraine or in a low- and middle-income country who have received refuges from Ukraine. Our intent is to support health care providers involved in addressing healthcare needs of the victims of the current war in Ukraine. The focus can be on any relevant area of health or mental health and can include clinicians, researchers, or advocates.

It is expected that focus of activity will be on developing, implementing strengthening and/or evaluating clinical or population health services for victims of the war in Ukraine. The applicant should propose an ongoing or new collaboration between the applicant, their institution or organization, and the CGH, related to helping war victims. They should include a request for a brief training curriculum and mentorship from a UIC faculty member (name the faculty member if possible, but this is not necessary) in topics, strategies, or methods needed for their work. The funds can be used to support travel to UIC (if visa can be secured) or the interactions can be virtual, or both. As part of their award they will be expected to give a lecture to the CGH.

A pre-training meeting, as well as a questionnaire, will be required to identify the goals of the program. An evaluation will be then completed at the end of the program. Applicants will need to apply based on timeline below to participate in the professional development opportunity.
