Patrick Tranmer received his MD from the University of Iowa Medical School in 1977 and attended the University of Iowa affiliated residency program at Broadlawns Polk County Hospital in Des Moines,Iowa, graduating in 1980. From there he entered private group practice in Muscatine, Iowa, a town of 25,000 people, staying through 1986.In January, 1987, he began work at the University of Illinois at Chicago as faculty in the Department of Family Medicine, and has served such roles as Acting Head, Medical Director of UIHMO, Center Medical Director for Family Medicine, and Department Head.
He received his M.P.H. from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1990, and is a past President of the Medical Staff at the UIC Medical Center. He previously served as Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs at UICOM and as the Executive Director of the University of Illinois Physicians Group.
