Dr. Heiferman joined the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences in 2021 as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and staff physician at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center. He is an alumnus of the Department, having just completed his Vitreoretinal Surgery Fellowship here in the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary, and he is currently completing a second clinical fellowship in ocular oncology at the Byers Eye Institute at Stanford University. Dr. Heiferman is a vitreoretinal surgeon and ocular oncologist with interests in translational cancer research, retinal imaging, and medical education.

Dr. Heiferman’s research interests include establishing an ocular tumor biorepository to identify novel therapeutic targets, earlier detection, and prognostication in ocular oncology. He is also interested in using advanced imaging techniques to study the diagnosis and prognosis of retinal diseases and ocular tumors.
