Maureen Gecht-Silver came to UIC in 1994 with over 16 years of experience as an occupational therapist working with patients with chronic health conditions and physical disabilities. Through her entire career she has maintained an interest in helping clients play an active role in managing their own health conditions and in teaching health professionals to gain increased satisfaction from their work by inspiring the patient’s active role. She has continued to develop this work through providing complex case management in the Family Medicine clinic and instruction in self management and motivational interviewing skills to medical students, Family Medicine residents, Occupational Therapists and other health professionals.
