Biographical Info

Laurence Burd, MD has retired from clinical practice but continues to be engaged in administrative activities, teaching and mentoring. Following his medical school training and residency, he served as a Major in the United States Air force and then completed his fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine at the University of Colorado. He returned to Chicago as Director of Maternal Fetal Medicine and Obstetric Services at Michael Reese Hospital, Director of the Research Laboratory of Fetal and Maternal Physiology, Director of the Antenatal Diagnostic Unit and Co-Director of the Perinatal Center at The University of Chicago.

During his tenure he received recognition as a consultant at Community Hospital in Indiana, Illinois Medical Center and Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Illinois. He joined the faculty at the University of Illinois in 1995. Throughout his career, Dr Burd has been an active member of several professional societies including The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, The Society for Gynecologic Investigation, The Perinatal Research Society and The Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine. He has authored or co-authored 40 abstracts presented at various clinical meetings and 50 publications in several books and peer reviewed journals.
