I grew up on a dairy farm in Vermont. After college I worked in prisoners’ health and legal services and investigating police misconduct in New York City. The events of 9/11 were a watershed for me: I made a career change from criminal justice to medicine. I did a year in surgery at Stony Brook and am joining UIC as the first Rural Track resident in Gibson for the class of 2023. I am interested in rural and urban poverty as these relate to issues of access to healthcare, transportation, healthy food, and green space. I chose UIC-FM because it was the most socially conscious, deliberate program that I encountered on the interview trail. I chose a rural track because of my desire to practice full-spectrum family medicine in a rural setting. Hobbies: cycling, boxing, cooking, travel, photography
