Dr. Georges Bordage (MD, MSc, PhD) is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of
Medical Education in the College of Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He
is the recipient of four honorary doctoral degrees (Sherbrooke, Moncton, Louvain,
Laval) and is a visiting professor at the universities of Bern (Switzerland) and Tokyo
(Japan). He taught courses in Scholarship and Current Issues in Health Professions
Education, Research Design and Grant Writing, and Scientific Writing. His research
includes the study of clinical reasoning, the written and oral assessment of clinical
decisions, the “key features” approach (first developed for the Medical Council of
Canada in the early 90’s and now used worldwide), the hypothesis-driven approach to
teaching and assessing the physical exam, and scientific writing.
He is the recipient of multiple awards, including the Abraham Flexner Award of the
American Association of Medical Colleges for extraordinary contributions to the medical
education community, the John P. Hubbard Award from the National Board of Medical
Examiners for significant contributions to the pursuit of excellence in the field of
evaluation in medicine, the American Education Research Association Distinguished
Career Award, and the Dr. Louis Levasseur Distinguished Service Award for
Outstanding Contributions to the Vision and Mission of the Medical Council of Canada.
