Biosketch:
Managing chronic illness and decreasing polypharmacy I grew up in the Northern suburbs, left briefly for undergrad at Washington University in St. Louis, and then came back to Chicago proper and haven’t left since! I originally
planned to be a social worker, and spent three years as a case manager for people with serious mental illness on Chicago’s North Side. One of those years, I worked as a volunteer through Avodah, a Jewish program similar to AmeriCorps. My years working with people with serious mental illness opened my eyes to the health disparities that exist right here in our city, and the great need for compassionate primary care physicians that can act as advocates for their patients on an individual, local and national level. After deciding to pursue a career in medicine, I worked for two years at Northwestern University as a research assistant on a national project aiming to
improve ultrasound fetal weight estimates (National Fetal Growth Study). After starting medical school at UIC it was clear that family medicine was the right path for me, as I love patients of all ages and stripes. I am so happy to be able to stay at UIC, my “medical home,” for residency.
My clinical interests include underserved medicine, integrating social and medical services, women’s health, family planning, maternity care, mental health and illness, HIV/AIDS, child development, LGBTQIA inclusive healthcare, palliative care, managing chronic illness and decreasing polypharmacy.
When I’m not at UIC, you can find me hanging out with my family: my amazing husband, Ben, my adorable son, Sam, and our awkwardly shaped beagle-mix, Kadi. I love reading fiction, talking about Harry Potter, doing crossword puzzles, and riding the blue line.
