Dr. Abrams received his PhD in Neuroscience in 1991 from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, New York and his MD followed in 1992. He completed his residency in 1996 at the New York Hospital/Cornell University Medical College, Bronx, New York and went on to complete his Fellowship at the Johns Hopkins Medical College, Departments of Neuroscience and Neurology, in Baltimore, Maryland in 1997. He previously held an Assistant Professor position in the Departments of Neuroscience and Neurology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, New York, and then served as an Associate Professor and Professor in the Departments of Neurology and Physiology and Pharmacology and additionally was the Director of the Neuromuscular Division of Neurology at SUNY, Downstate Medical Center.
Dr. Abrams has received research funding from the National Institutes of Health, The Muscular Dystrophy Association and National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Research Interests:
Dr. Abrams focus is on the roles of connexins, or gap junction proteins, in myelinating glia of the central and peripheral nervous systems including their roles in Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, Pelizaeus-Merzbacher like disease and Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
