Clinical Neurophysiology Fellowship

Our ACGME-approved fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology is designed to provide the Neurologist with expertise in electrodiagnosis of central and peripheral disorders of the nervous system. The fellowship is structured to meet the certification requirements of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology for Added Qualifications in Clinical Neurophysiology. The majority of the fellowship experience is divided between the disciplines of EEG/Epilepsy and EMG/Neuromuscular Disease.
The EEG laboratory at UIC provides service for a full spectrum of clinical problems arising in both pediatric and adult populations. There is an active epilepsy monitoring unit. UIC also has active evoked potential and intraoperative monitoring services. Fellows rotate in two refractory epilepsy clinics weekly, and there is a bi-monthly Epilepsy Surgery and EEG Conference, along with a full epilepsy/EEG didactic program.
The EMG laboratory at UIC is very active and offers the full range of electrophysiologic services for the diagnosis of patients with peripheral nervous system disease. The EMG lab is accredited by the AANEM. Fellows also learn EMG techniques at the nearby Jesse Brown VA Medical Center. In addition, the fellowship includes experience in our outpatient neuromuscular clinics including a Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) sponsored Neuromuscular Disorders Clinic, an ALS-Association sponsored Motor Neuron Disease Clinic, and a Neuropathy & Nerve Injuries Clinic. There are bi-monthly EMG conferences as well.
Lastly, there are opportunities for clinical research during fellowship. A research project suitable for publication or presentation is a strongly encouraged fellowship component.

To begin the application process, please contact our program coordinator: Jeannette Hernandez. A completed application form should be returned to us along with an updated copy of your curriculum vitae and three letters of recommendation (letters should be addressed and sent directly to Program Coordinator/Director).
When your application is complete, you will be considered for a personal interview. Our final decisions regarding fellowship selection are usually made about 15 months before the start date (July of each academic year).
