Identification of cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in demyelinating diseases (Krabbe disease, metachromatic leukodystrophy, and multiple sclerosis) to develop efficacious therapeutic interventions.

About

My research interests are on three areas. We study the early pathogenic steps mediating inflammatory demyelination of the central nervous system. We focus on crosstalk mechanisms involving inflammatory cytokines and dysfunctional responses in myelin-forming cells. Secondly, we are studying how extracellular vesicles (EVs) participate in pathogenesis of inherited leukodystrophies, as well as their possible use as biomarkers and for early treatment as delivery nanocarriers to reconstitute lysosomal enzymes. A third area of interest studies mechanisms to decrease the synthesis of undesired lipids in sphingolipidoses.
