Several faculty will be go to Ayder Hospital in Mekelle, northern Ethiopia this spring as part of our Department’s MELA Project, which is our Department’s Global Women’s Health Initiative to reduce maternal mortality in Ethiopia. We established a formal partnership with Mekelle University in Ethiopia in 2015 to support and improve the quality of their newly established OB/Gyn Residency Program. Since then, faculty from our Department, as well as other UIC Departments have been providing OB/Gyn educational support and research development. Dr. Gelila Goba, Assistant Professor and Director of the OBGYN Global Women’s Health Fellowship, leads the MELA Project, with support from the IDP Foundation, Chicago IL, and a UIC Chancellor Seed Grant. Funding is crucial to build sustainability for our Global Health initiative, so please consider giving to the Mela Project!
The renovation of the OB/GYN Simulation Center is now complete! Through a generous donation from Dr. Howard Grundy, the Women of Steel Obstetrical Simulation Lab was inaugurated in July 2016. Further funding is needed, so please contact me if you are interested in donating to this educational initiative!
We continue to expand our Department and we are actively recruiting faculty. Please check out the links below:
Our diverse faculty and staff are committed to moving the Department forward through their hard work and passion for excellence in patient care, education and research. Feel free to stop by my office to discuss the exciting changes taking place in our thriving Department.
