Research programs in the Tseng lab are directly aligned with the NIMH agenda by establishing a developmental framework in which mental disorders can be understood. We are particularly interested in understanding how the functional maturation of excitatory and inhibitory synapses in the prefrontal cortex emerges during adolescence and how disruption of these developmental processes triggers the onset of cognitive deficits relevant to schizophrenia and related psychiatric disorders.
