Medical Students

The University of Illinois at Chicago, Department of Orthopaedics accepts visiting medical students from LCME-approved, osteopathic, and affiliated foreign institutions.

  • Students must have completed the prerequisite third year core clerkships prior to starting the 4 week elective.
  • Students interested in applying for an Orthopaedic or Sports Medicine elective should email our student coordiantor to obtain the required application materials and the current set rotation block dates.
  • We do not currently participate in VSAS.
  • Rotation blocks fill on a 1st come basis.
  • Application processing will only begin after the completed application is received and all requirements are met. Missing documents will delay processing.

Microsurgery Training Courses Heading link

Purpose

These courses aim for trainees to obtain the basic and advanced microsurgical skills.

Target Audience

The courses are directed to surgeons in the following specialties: general surgery, neurosurgery, urology, gynecology, otolaryngology, as well as plastic, orthopaedic, and hand surgery. The courses are also directed to trainees in the specialties above, as well as researchers who seek training in practical microsurgery at either of two levels, basic or advanced. The Specialty-Oriented Course can be tailored for individual participants with interest in applying microsurgical techniques to nerves, fallopian tubes, and vas deferens.

Dates and Locations

The Microsurgery Training Courses are offered on a weekly basis through- out the year. The five day course runs from 9:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday at the discretion of the Department of Orthopaedics. The Microsurgery Research Laboratory is located in the Molecular Biology Research Building at University of Illinois at Chicago (900 South Ashland Avenue, Room 3356, Chicago, IL, 60612).
