Dr. Jiang is originally from China and received her BS degree in Biological Sciences from Fudan University, China. She was awarded her PhD degree in Molecular and Human Genetics from Baylor College of Medicine where she focused on organ development, disease modeling and gene regulations. She then moved to the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Developmental Biology and the Division of Endocrinology. Dr. Jiang started at UIC as an assistant professor in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics in August 2018. Her current research focuses on the roles of adipose stem cells in adipose tissue development, expansion, and aging.

How cells and tissues develop and grow, and how these processes go awry in disease states are important questions in biology. The Jiang lab has broad interests to study tissue development and disease, with particular focus on adipose tissues. Using unique genetic mouse models, molecular and cellular biology, and systematic approaches, we aim to understand how fat cells are born, live, function and turn over, and what makes fat cells dysfunctional. By gaining insight into these processes, we hope to translate this knowledge into a cure for obesity and metabolic diseases, to explore and engineer fat into therapeutic opportunities for human health.
