Jooman Park, PhD (University of Illinois at Chicago): “Reactivating Thermogenic Fat: Targeting Adipose Progenitors in Metabolic Disease”

May 9, 2025

11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Location

Moss Auditorium - 1020 COMRB

Host: Yuwei Jiang, PhD

Beige adipocytes enhance energy expenditure and represent a promising therapeutic target for metabolic disease, yet their function declines with obesity and aging. In this seminar, Dr. Park will discuss how hormonal and immune signaling pathways regulate adipose tissue plasticity in these contexts. Focusing on the roles of estrogen, NAMPT, and IL-33, he will present evidence for a signaling axis that maintains thermogenic beige adipocyte function and preserves adipose progenitor pools, offering insights into strategies to restore metabolic flexibility and improve systemic energy homeostasis.
