My expertise is in Cytopathology and Pulmonary Pathology. Much of my time is committed to overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Cytopathology service and ensuring that we are efficiently providing the highest quality service. My colleagues and I interpret a diverse variety of gynecologic, non-gynecologic and fine needle aspiration cytology specimens from in-house providers as well as from Outreach clients. We occasionally perform fine needle aspiration biopsies and assess adequacy of image-guided biopsies from various anatomic sites. We pride ourselves on the role we play as consultants to our clinical colleagues, and as members of multidisciplinary oncology care teams. Medical student and resident education as well as service on various departmental and institutional committees round out my professional responsibilities. Most importantly, my role as Director of an academic Cytopathology Division permits consistent and meaningful involvement in clinical and investigational activities that ultimately benefit the patient population in the uniquely complex and dynamic environment that is the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System.
