In 2006, Dr. Campbell-Lee became the Director of Transfusion Medicine at the University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences System after serving as an Associate Medical Director of Transfusion Medicine at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. In February, 2014, Dr. Campbell-Lee became the director of the Centralized Transfusion Service of the Institute for Transfusion Medicine in Chicago which is centered at the University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences System. The UIH Hospital Transfusion Medicine Service distributes 25,000 blood components a year, and performs approximately 2,000 therapeutic apheresis procedures annually. The blood bank laboratory provides basic and reference laboratory level immunohematologic testing. Dr. Campbell-Lee’s research is focused on the immunomodulatory effects of transfusion, especially red blood cell alloimmunization.
