Training Options

The University of Illinois at Chicago Department of Pathology offers a four-year, ACGME-accredited training program in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. Three-year programs in Anatomic or Clinical Pathology are also available for select individuals. Several fellowships are offered, including Surgical Pathology, Hematopathology, Cytopathology,  Informatics and Blood Banking / Transfusion Medicine.

All residents deliver presentations at the citywide Illinois Registry of Pathology meetings and are encouraged to submit abstracts and make presentations at national pathology meetings. Travel stipends are provided for residents to travel to meetings to present their faculty-guided research, translational and basic.

The curriculum offers the possibility of flexibility in the timing and choice of rotations and can be tailored to the interests and abilities of the resident. Training pathways for those who are interested in becoming clinician-scientists are available.
