Cerebrovascular Surgery Fellowship

Participants:
Post-residency graduates seeking additional experience in the field of cerebrovascular surgery.

Candidates:
US neurosurgical graduates or residents in training from ACGME accredited institutions. Foreign graduates already licensed in their own country, who are ECFMG certified will be considered.

Program Length:
12 Months

Program Purpose:
Our goal is to provide qualified neurosurgeons with additional experience in the field of cerebrovascular surgery including complex aneurysm surgery and bypass. The program is aimed at post-residency US neurosurgeons who wish to deepen their interest in this specialty.

Description of Teaching/Learning Activities:

  1. Operative experience in cerebrovascular surgery including complex aneurysms, bypass, carotid endarterectomy, and AVMs. Hands on clinical experience under the direct supervision of faculty members
  2. Monthly Neurosurgery Grand Rounds with guest lecturers among the leaders in neurosurgery and neurosurgical research, followed by case presentations from the neurosurgical community in the city
  3. Daily multidisciplinary teaching rounds in the ICU
  4. Bi-monthly M&M conferences with case discussions.
  5. Participation in teaching conferences and symposia dedicated to cerebrovascular topics.
  6. Dedicated time for participation in research projects performed by section of cerebrovascular surgery.
  7. Hands-on cadaver and microsurgery laboratory.

Facilities and Other Resources:
UIC Medical Center and all facilities and resources currently available for the neurosurgery resident will also be available for the neurosurgery fellow.
