Participants:
Post-residency graduates seeking additional experience in the field of cerebrovascular surgery.
Candidates:
US neurosurgical graduates or residents in training from ACGME accredited institutions. Foreign graduates already licensed in their own country, who are ECFMG certified will be considered.
Program Length:
12 Months
Program Purpose:
Our goal is to provide qualified neurosurgeons with additional experience in the field of cerebrovascular surgery including complex aneurysm surgery and bypass. The program is aimed at post-residency US neurosurgeons who wish to deepen their interest in this specialty.
Description of Teaching/Learning Activities:
- Operative experience in cerebrovascular surgery including complex aneurysms, bypass, carotid endarterectomy, and AVMs. Hands on clinical experience under the direct supervision of faculty members
- Monthly Neurosurgery Grand Rounds with guest lecturers among the leaders in neurosurgery and neurosurgical research, followed by case presentations from the neurosurgical community in the city
- Daily multidisciplinary teaching rounds in the ICU
- Bi-monthly M&M conferences with case discussions.
- Participation in teaching conferences and symposia dedicated to cerebrovascular topics.
- Dedicated time for participation in research projects performed by section of cerebrovascular surgery.
- Hands-on cadaver and microsurgery laboratory.
Facilities and Other Resources:
UIC Medical Center and all facilities and resources currently available for the neurosurgery resident will also be available for the neurosurgery fellow.
