Congratulations to third year medical student, Makambo Tshionyi, J.D., M.B.A. who won first place in the graduate students, life sciences division at the 2012 UIC Student Research Forum. Makambo's presentation entitled "High Resolution Ictal Spect Localizes Epileptic Circuitry in a Patient with Refractory Extratemporal Epilepsy", was based on work done with
Prof. Rossi, MD, PhD, who was the principal faculty sponsor and is Assistant Professor & Senior Attending at the Rush Epilepsy Center and is Adjunct Assistant Professor at the UIC Dept of Bioengineering.

Congratulations to third year medical student Carmen Cancino, who has been selected to receive the prestigious Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship.
The Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Program was established in 1985 at UIC to encourage African-American, Latino(a), and Native-American UIC students who have demonstrated high academic achievement in the many fields where they have traditionally been underrepresented and who have shown commitment through community and campus service. Selection is based on academic record, personal statement, recommendations, and demonstrated commitment to community/campus service.
