Project/Site Summary Heading link

The project’s mission is to create a quality sustainable emergency care system in Uganda. The project is managed by a non-profit organization called Global Emergency Care, in partnership with the UIC Center for Global Health and other Ugandan and U.S. academic institutions.

The project has been operating in Uganda since 2009, training mid-level providers called Emergency Care Practitioners (ECPs) that provide clinical services to emergency patients. The project utilizes train-the-trainer and task-shifting models to improve access to quality emergency care to prevent unnecessary death and disability from treatable conditions such as malaria, pneumonia, diarrhea, and trauma. This partnership also supports emergency physician training programs, development of quality care systems and research capacity building.
