Lawrence Ross, MD is the Clarence C. Saelhof Professor Emeritus for the Department of Urology at University of Illinois at Chicago, where he has worked for 25 years. Previously, Dr. Ross served as the Clarence C. Saelhof Professor and Head of the Department of Urology.
Dr. Ross is an internationally-renowned urologist focusing on male reproduction, infertility surgery and research. He has studied sperm cryopreservation and varicocele surgery, including the effects of varicocele on adolescents in order to determine the optimum time of repair for young men.
Following his tenure as American Urological Association President from 2005 until 2008, Dr. Ross remained an active leader in organized urology. Today, Dr. Ross serves with the AUA Leadership Program as a mentor to young leaders in urology across the country. He has also served as President for the Chicago Urological Society, the North Central Section of the AUA, the Illinois State Urological Society, the Society for Male Reproduction and Urology and the American Mediterranean Association of Male Reproduction.
Dr. Ross is presently the AUA’s liaison for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. His work has established male reproduction and men’s health as important areas of study for the Centers and he continues working towards the CDC’s official recognition of men’s health issues. Most recently, Dr. Ross was honored with the establishment of the Dr. Lawrence S. Ross Professorship in the Department of Urology.
