During the first year of residency (PGY1), trainees rotate for six months each with urology and general surgery. Residents then complete four years of clinical urology training (PGY2, 3, 5 and 6). In addition, the residency includes one full year (PGY4) of research in which residents have the opportunity to participate in our NIH funded prostate cancer research laboratory, design medical devices at the UIC Innovation Center, pursue clinical research projects, and take courses at the UIC School of Public Health.

Our program utilizes four major and diverse hospitals for resident education. Both in general surgery and urology, residents rotate through the University of Illinois Hospital (UIC), Mount Sinai Hospital (MSH), and OSF little company of Mary. Pediatric training is provided at UIC and Lurie Children’s Hospital. The proximity of these hospitals allows for complete integration of all conferences, lectures, and teaching sessions. We believe that our system offers each resident the broadest urological training experience presently available at any urological residency training program, and fully prepares residents for academic or clinical careers.
