The mission of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology is to carry out outstanding research on the biology, transmission and pathogenesis of viruses and bacteria, as well as on the fundamental immune mechanisms that contribute to both health and disease.

What We Study Heading link
There are currently seventeen faculty members within the department and we are actively recruiting additional new faculty members. Our faculty members study diverse biological questions, ranging from issues of autoimmunity and selection of immune repertoire, emerging pathogens, bacterial and viral pathogenesis, molecular microbiology, physiological cell death, signal transduction and gene therapy in human disease.
