Pradeep K. Dudeja, PhD, Professor of Physiology & Director, Divisional Scholarly Activities in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology is being honored with the Takeda Distinguished Scientist Award from the American Physiological Society (APS), GI‐Liver section for the year 2018. This award
recognizes an outstanding internationally recognized investigator and represents one of the highest honors bestowed upon a physiologist by the APS for their lifetime contributions to GI & Liver research.

Dr. Dudeja’s research program focuses on understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying pathophysiology of diarrhea associated with inflammatory bowel diseases as well as bacterial infections and to develop strategies and tools for better treatment of diarrheal disorders. Dr. Dudeja’s work led to the discovery of the mechanisms of electrolyte and short chain fatty absorption in the human intestine, and mechanisms underlying early diarrhea associated with EPEC infection. He is also known for his successful mentoring of many scientists at UIC and other APS members. He will be honored at the APS‐GI‐Liver banquet at the 2018 Experimental Biology meeting in San Diego where he will receive the award and deliver a talk. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Dudeja on receiving this prestigious award.
