Dr. Jennifer Lim

An interview with Jennifer Lim, MD, Director of the Retina Service, can be heard on the Mayo Clinic’s radio program Medical Edge.  Dr. Lim and colleague Sophie Bakri, MD, of the Mayo Clinic, discuss age related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy, including new treatments.

A podcast of the interview, first broadcast on February 2, 2013, can be downloaded here.

One new treatment for age related macular degeneration, which now affects more than 1.75 million people in the U.S., is the drug delivery system called Verisome® from Icon BioSciences, Inc.  Dr. Lim recently completed a pilot study that combined a leading treatment for neovascular AMD – Lucentis® (ranbisumab) – with Verisome which resulted in patients needing fewer Lucentis injections.   To learn more about this unique drug delivery system, click here.

Dr. Lim recently treated a patient with symptomatic VMA with a new drug that can be used instead of surgery for some patients.  The Jetrea™ injection, which took place in the Retina Service on February 13, was the first of its kind in Chicago.

Dr. Lim now serves on the important Retina Subspecialty Day Planning Committee for the American Society of Retina Surgeons, the premier professional group of retina specialists. Continuing medical education videos that she recently filmed for can be found at RetinaCME.com.
