The Department’s annual graduation dinner celebration was on Saturday night, June 9th at Gibson’s Bar and Steakhouse in Chicago. Heather Nixon, MD won the Outstanding Teacher Award, selected and presented by the residents, and Krysta Peters, MD won the prestigious Robert D. Dripps, MD Memorial Award as outstanding graduating resident, selected by the department’s faculty. Hiram Isaac, MD received the department’s Walter Kowalski, MD Achievement Award. The award recognizes outstanding young residents in the department.
Heather Nixon, MD, was also recognized for her outstanding service as the Residency Program Director for the past 3 years. She passed the baton to Rena Beckerly, MD this past April & will continue to serve as the Associate Head of Education. Jacqueline Galvan, MD has assumed the role of Associate Program Director, along with the continued service of Peggy Wheeler, MD.
The following Teamwork Awards were handed out, recognizing a resident from each of the three clinical anesthesia training years:

Michael Williams, MD CA-1 class
The evening concluded with the establishment of the Faculty Team Player & Altruism in Anesthesiology Award. Verna Baughman, MD was selected as the inaugural recipient. Heart-felt stories were shared by faculty & residents from her 30+ years of service. For future recipients, this award has been renamed—
