Rohan Shah, Class of 2011
Through my experiences during the first year of medical school, I have realized that illness is characterized by deviations from the norm. Sometimes the causes of diseases are seemingly small: such as an extra nucleotide or a stubborn microbe. However, the impact that they have on the body is extensive. In my piece I have depicted those small changes and deviations in red. If you look at each of the five patterns individually, the red additions look small and relatively unaffecting. However, when you look at the composition as a whole, these small changes have a big impact on the piece. They are disruptive and they detract from the composition, similar to how the causes of disease can detract from the functionality of the human body.
