DESCRIPTION:Host: Yuwei Jiang, PhD    The Qi laboratory at the University of Virginia (UVA) focused on understanding the complex world of protein degradation in a cellular structure known as the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). His laboratory investigates how the ER maintains its health and balance and how this process, particularly a mechanism called ER-associated degradation (ERAD), is linked to human diseases. Over the years, his laboratory has made significant strides in understanding ERAD in health and disease. One of the most notable achievements is the recent identification of mutations in the critical ERAD pathway involving SEL1L-HRD1 in a group of patients known as ENDI patients, with neurological disorders with onset in infancy.
