Philip Dumesic, PhD (UCSF) – “Regulation of energy metabolism through privileged mRNA translation”

June 12, 2026

11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Location

Moss Auditorium, 1020 COMRB

Host: Yuwei Jiang, PhD

Seminar Abstract: Our lab studies how genes guide cellular decisions in energy metabolism. I will discuss how mRNA translation preferences can govern mitochondrial biogenesis, influence metabolic disease susceptibility, and perhaps even contribute to the evolution of distinct metabolic phenotypes. Our long-term goal is to leverage an understanding of gene expression specificity in order to treat obesity, diabetes, and cachexia.
