UIC College of Medicine students are members of Physician House Advising Communities, established to allow more interclass interaction UIC College of Medicine students are members of Physician House Advising Communities, established to allow more interclass interaction where students can learn from each other as they will when they are out in the real world. These social and academic homes are overseen by faculty mentors, who act as advisors, teachers, and career development coaches.

Participating students are placed in one of the following COM-Unities: Isabella Garnett Community, Rachelle Yarros Community, Olga Jonasson Community, Julius Richmond Community, David Sackett Community, José Choca Community, Arno Motulsky Community, Rivers Frederick Community.

Throughout the year, each of the eight communities compete in service, athletic, and scholarly events to earn house points. At the end of the year, these points are tallied, and a single community is awarded champion and presented the house cup.
