Illinois Statesmen Bring Holiday Cheer to Children’s Hospital

UI Health Holidays by the Tree

Illinois statesmen on Dec. 23 joined Dr. Benjamin Van Voorhees and other dignitaries to help brighten the holidays for patients and families in Children’s Hospital University of Illinois.

They included Illinois State Sen. Lakesia Collins, Illinois Rep. Yolanda Morris, Chicago aldermen Walter Burnett Jr. and Jason Ervin and Cook County Commissioner Michael Scott Jr.

Hosting the guests were UIC Chancellor Marie Lynn Miranda, G. Stephen Irwin Executive College of Medicine Dean Mark Rosenblatt, Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics Dr. Andrew Kreppel, Nurse Manager Judy Cruz and Associate Chief Nursing Officer Doreen Norris-Stojak as well as Dr. Van Voorhees and staff.

After visiting families and newborns to distribute teddy bears on the 4West Mother-Baby Unit, the guests moved to 5West Pediatrics and the Pediatrics Intensive Care Unit.

There, they met Mrs. Santa Claus and helped her distribute holiday stockings. Patients decorated hats and played with holiday coloring books while Sen. Collins read T’was the Night Before Christmas.

ABC Channel 7 News covered the event, which attracted around 100 people, Dr. Van Voorhees says.
