Reference Laboratory

Since its inception in 2004, the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System (UI Hospital) Pathology Laboratory’s Outreach Program continues to serve the local community’s need for affordable, accessible healthcare of the highest quality. Through its efforts, the Outreach Program provides both routine and highly specialized testing services in the areas of molecular pathology, clinical chemistry, microbiology, hematology, coagulation, flow cytometry, cytogenetics, biochemical genetics, surgical and anatomic pathology, cytology, tissue typing, transfusion medicine, and blood donor services.

Through its consultative approach, leading edge technology and focus on customer service the UIH Outreach Program currently provides laboratory services to a number of local and state agencies as well as many other universities, hospitals, clinics and physician offices throughout the state of Illinois and surrounding area.

Innovative and flexible programs and practices in the Outreach Program have strengthened strategic relationships with other organizations in our community and have provided a basis of support for clinical research and the generation of state-of-the-art clinical tests. Innovative uses of new laboratory informatics tools will also be used to provide quality improvement and laboratory management support for Outreach clients and the regional medical community.
