Anatomic Pathology
Odile David, MD, MPH
Associate Professor Director of CytopathologyPathologyBiographical Info
My expertise is in Cytopathology and Pulmonary Pathology. Much of my time is committed to overseeing the day to day operations of the Cytology laboratory and ensuring that we are efficiently providing the highest quality service. I am fortunate to have highly competent team members in all areas of the laboratory. I direct the Cytopathology fellowship and actively supervise the fellow. My Cytopathology colleagues and I perform fine needle aspiration biopsies, assess adequacy of image-guided biopsies from various anatomic sites, and interpret a diverse variety of gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology specimens from in-house providers as well as from Outreach clients. We pride ourselves on the role we play as consultants to our clinical colleagues, who regularly seek our opinions on matters related to patient management and treatment. This holds true also for my position as the pathologist on the interdisciplinary lung cancer team. I regularly participate in the weekly multidisciplinary lung conference at which pathology is presented and immunohistochemical, molecular and other ancillary testing is discussed. I have valuable experience as well as formal training in clinically oriented research, including the planning and execution of basic science experiments and clinical trials and interpretation and presentation of data. At the current time I am collaborating with two basic scientists who are conducting highly engaging and clinically relevant research, one in the arena of lung cancer biomarkers and the other in the arena of genetic profiling of head and neck cancer. Medical student and resident education as well as service on various departmental and institutional committees round out my professional responsibilities. Most importantly, my role as Director of an academic Cytopathology Division permits consistent and meaningful involvement in clinical and experimental activities that ultimately benefit the patient population in the uniquely complex and dynamic environment that is the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System. |
