Dr. Abenet Michael is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist at the Illinois Eye & Ear Infirmary, where he provides comprehensive medical and surgical care for patients with glaucoma and cataracts. His clinical practice includes the management of primary and secondary glaucomas, with expertise in minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), glaucoma drainage devices, and combined cataract-glaucoma procedures.

Dr. Michael is passionate about patient-centered care, with a particular interest in managing complex glaucomas in diverse populations. He is also committed to resident and fellow education, actively participating in the supervision and training of ophthalmology trainees in both the Glaucoma and General Eye Clinics.

He is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Michael earned his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine, completed his ophthalmology residency at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, and fellowship training in glaucoma at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary. He joined the Glaucoma Division in 2025.
