7th Annual Women’s Health Research Day

WHRD 2025

On April 16, 2025, the University of Illinois Chicago Center for Research on Women and Gender along with the Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women’s Health program and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology hosted its 7th annual Women’s Health Research Day.

The event featured two keynote speakers, Dr. Rachel Caskey, MD of the University of Illinois Chicago and Dr. Pauline Maki, PhD of the University of Illinois Chicago. Dr. Caskey presented a talk entitled Translating Research into Practice: Developing a Maternal Health Research Center of Excellence. Dr. Maki presented a talk entitled From Menopause Research to Menopause Policy at the State, Federal, and Global Level.

BIRCWH Scholar Dr. Hunter Holt moderated a panel discussion composed of Dr. Stacie Geller, PhD, Dr. Priyanka Gohkale, MD, Dr. Pavitra Kotini-Shah, MD, and Ms. Abigail Suleman, MPH to discuss research and policy at different levels of a career.

In addition to the keynote speakers and panel, students and faculty were invited to submit abstracts for a chance to be selected to deliver an oral abstract at the event and to present a poster regarding their research. 60 abstracts were presented and all submissions were invited to present posters at the event symposium.

Two students were chosen to present their abstracts to attendees, Emily White VanGompel, MD, MPH and Sarah Corapi, MS, RDN, LDN. Aline Vandenbroeck and Parneet Kular were recognized for their outstanding poster presentations.
