Michael Gerges, LCPC, serves as the Senior Director of Behavioral Health for the Department of Medicine. In this role, Mr. Gerges provides strategic and operational leadership for the Department’s expanding behavioral health portfolio, encompassing both clinical services and research initiatives. He is a key contributor to the Department’s vision for sustainable growth, ensuring that behavioral health programs are developed with a strong emphasis on quality, accessibility, and long‑term impact.
As an Illinois Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Mr. Gerges brings a broad and deeply rooted background in mental and behavioral healthcare, shaped by experience as both a practitioner and an organizational leader. His career includes leadership roles and direct service work across a wide spectrum of settings, including substance use disorder treatment, residential programs for DCFS youth‑in‑care, individual and group psychotherapy, correctional health services, court‑mandated treatment programs, and community mental health organizations spanning nonprofit and for‑profit sectors.
Prior to joining the Department of Medicine, Mr. Gerges served in the Department of Pediatrics as the Executive Director of the CHECK Program and as Section Chief for Clinical Population and Behavioral Health, where he helped shape innovative, patient‑centered approaches to care delivery.
Mr. Gerges is driven by a commitment to advancing equitable, effective, and compassionate behavioral health services. He leverages his clinical expertise, leadership experience, and deep passion for patient well‑being to ensure that the Department of Medicine’s behavioral health initiatives remain accessible, person‑centered, and grounded in best practices.
