UIC researchers to lead large-scale noninvasive study of chronic kidney disease
Introduction
Researchers at the University of Illinois Chicago, led by Dr. Anand Srivastava, are conducting the largest U.S. study using noninvasive kidney functional MRI (fMRI) to better understand chronic kidney disease (CKD). With $3.8 million in NIH funding, the team will compare fMRI scans with kidney biopsy results to evaluate how well the scans detect kidney scarring—potentially paving the way for safer diagnostics and new therapies.
